The KBO League is South Korea’s version of MLB, featuring the country’s premier players. Started in 1982, the KBO is far and away South Korea’s most popular sports league. Odds are posted before each game at PlaySugarHouse.com.
There are 10 teams that play each other 16 times over the course of the season, meaning each club plays a total of 144 games. Each team can have up to three foreign-born players on its roster, and many former MLB players extend their careers by venturing to the KBO League. ESPN announced it will broadcast one game nightly six days a week.
Do you like offensive firepower, home runs, and high-scoring games? Then the KBO League is your kind of baseball. Batting averages are much higher than with American baseball.
Of the league’s 10 teams, a few stand out.
- The Kia Tigers are the league’s most successful team – the Tigers have claimed 11 of the 38 total titles in KBO Championship Series history.
- The Doosan Bears are reigning champs and have won three of the last five titles. They have three former MLB players on the roster: Raul Alcantara, Jose Miguel Fernandez, and Chris Flexen.
- The Kiwoom Heroes are the heartbreak kids of KBO. Six times in the last seven seasons, they’ve made the playoffs, but the team has never won the KBO title. They have former MLB players Jake Brigham, Eric Jokisch, Taylor Motter, and Byung-Ho Park on the roster.
- The LG Twins are one of the league’s founding teams. They haven’t won a title since the 1990s, but they regularly make the playoffs. This year, they have three former MLB players, Casey Kelly, Hyun-Soo Kim, and Tyler Wilson.
With tons of offense and big-name players, this is elite baseball coming at you from the Far East!
